AIR ROTARY DRILLING
- Drilling method used to drill boreholes into rock formations.
- Air Rotary: Most water wells and environmental monitoring wells drilled into bedrock are constructed using air rotary.
Air rotary is a drilling method used to drill boreholes into rock formations. Air is utilized to circulate and cool the drill bit, bringing the drill cuttings to the surface, and maintaining the integrity of the borehole.
This is a great method to use on dense rock materials since this process can effectively move through common obstacles of even greater density which can occur in the drilling process.
In fact, this method is so effective most water wells and environmental monitoring wells drilled into bedrock are constructed using air rotary drilling.
Air rotary drilling is a time-saver, economic and cost-effective, and has a significantly lower impact on the environment than other methods of drilling. For more information, please contact us today.
DIRECT PUSH DRILLING
- Rigs use hydraulic cylinders and a hydraulic hammer in advancing a hollow core sampler to gather soil and groundwater samples.
- Advantages of direct-push technology:
- In the right soil type, can produce a large number of high quality samples quickly and cheaply, generally from 100 to 200 feet per day.
- Small diameter wells may be installed with this efficient technique.
Our GeoProbe® partners pioneered Direct Push Subsurface Sampling Technology in 1987. These machines “push” tools and sensors into the ground without needing to drill to remove the soil and make a path for the tool.
Rigs use hydraulic cylinders and a hydraulic hammer in advancing a hollow core sampler to gather soil and groundwater samples. This state of the art technology allows us to probe through sand, gravel, hard pans, high friction clay, tills, fill materials, and surface frost. We’re proud to make this technology accessible in the Atlanta area.
We use this technology for environmental investigation. Some advantages of direct-push technology include:
- In the right soil type, it can produce a large number of high-quality samples quickly and cheaply. Generally from 100 to 200 feet per day.
- Small diameter wells may be installed with this efficient technique.
For more information, please contact us today.
MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
- 1” to 6” permanent wells
We specialize in monitoring well projects all around the Atlanta area, and we take pride in our record of delivering excellence. A monitoring well allows for periodic sampling and analysis of groundwater in order to detect any changes in the groundwater flow, level, and quality.
We use hollow stem augers up to 8.25″ ID along with air/fluid rotary to install monitoring wells up to 6″ in diameter. You can depend on Hawkston to deliver current and accurate results so that you can continue your project without worry. For more information, please contact us today.
SOIL/GAS SAMPLING
- Post run tubing
- Vapor implants
This measures the gas contained in between the grains of soil, different than directly sampling the soil environment. What used to be a tedious and complicated task has become efficient. Our Post run tubing makes it quick and safe to extract gas samples from any soil.
We utilize Vapor Implants to increase the safety and security of the tubing system, guaranteeing the joint is anchored within the depths of the ground. A PRT adapter and O-rings eliminate the concern of system leaks at threaded joints.
All of our drill rigs are equipped with automatic drop hammers and high-speed rotary heads capable of coring rock. For more information, please contact us today.
GEOTECHNICAL SAMPLING
- Split spoon with Automatic Drop Hammer
- Packer testings
As one of the most important aspects of any drill construction, we take the process of Geotechnical Drilling very seriously. In order to determine if a location is suitable for construction, rock and soil samples will need to be removed and evaluated alongside soil stability and other concerns that can occur. This method is important for our geotechnical engineers to sample the environmental area alongside determining/ensuring site and construction safety, rig stability, oil quality investigations, and more.
We have the most efficient geotechnical drilling rigs in local the Atlanta, Georgia area: GeoProbe® Split spoon with Automatic Drop Hammer, a tool allowing accurate collection of Standard Penetration Test (SPT) blow count.
We also use this valuable tool to conduct Packer testings, which measure the permeability of the ground in sections of boreholes. We can identify the water producing zones and help determine the proper course of action to take to resolve potential groundwater issues. For more information, please contact us today.

More About Our Most Popular Services
Sampling
In order to ensure that your project is successful from start to finish, it is important to take a lot of samples of the environment to ensure the quality of your location is up to par. We provide both Soil-Gas Sampling and Geotechnical Sampling services.
Soil-Gas Sampling
This process measures the gas contained within the spaces between each grain of the soil, which is distinctly different than sampling the soil environment directly.
The process used to be tedious, however, thanks to our GeoProbe® system of soil-gas sampling, we are able to complete the sampling both safely and quickly.
We utilize Post run tubing, Vapor Implants, PRT adapter, and O-rings to ensure that the system is fully secure during the entire process. You don’t even have to worry about potential leaks at the threaded joints.
Geotechnical Sampling
Perhaps one of the most integral processes of any project, this is a sampling process that we take very seriously. The samples that we collect from this process will ensure site and construction safety, rig stability, oil quality, and more.
We utilize a GeoProbe® Split spoon with Automatic Drop Hammer, which is a tool that allows us to collect accurate Standard Penetration Test (SPT) blow count.
This test also allows us to conduct Packer testings, which are conducted in order to measure the permeability of the ground within sections of boreholes. Thanks to this process we can identify water-producing zones, which allows for preparation and action to be taken to resolve any potential issues relating to groundwater.
Direct Push Drilling
Since we are a GeoProbe® contractor, we are equipped with the most advanced machinery and technology in the business. GeoProbe® pioneered the Direct Push Subsurface Sampling Technology back in 1987.
The technology process is used to collect samples for environmental investigations. This machinery “pushes” the tools and sensors into the ground, without requiring any drilling to remove soil to make a path for the tool.
Direct Push allows us to probe through sand, gravel, hard pans, high friction clay, tills, fill materials and surface frost.
A couple of the advantages of this technology include:
– Potential production of anywhere from 100 to 200 feet of samples per day, on average, both quickly and cheaply.
– The installation of small diameter wells is also possible with this technique.
